Case study: biodiversity officer
Purpose of the role
The biodiversity officer manages and monitors biodiversity programs in areas of ecological significance. The officer consults with, engages and educates community and key stakeholders regarding programs and sustainability outcomes.
Core responsibilities
- Implement, monitor and manage biodiversity programs.
- Identify conservation strategies and new areas for conservation.
- Work with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure program management.
- Utilise local, state, national and international conservation policy and protocol to enhance biodiversity and sustainability outcomes.
- Campaign for biodiversity protection and awareness.
Skills and knowledge required
- Tertiary degree in science, environmental management, natural resource management or equivalent.
- An understanding of biodiversity and ecosystems.
- An ability to analyse data.
- Communication, negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Understanding of sustainability and environmental policy at all levels.
