Case Study: senior education officer (state government)
Purpose of the role
The senior education officer manages the development and implementation of educational resources and programs for use in community-based education for sustainability. This position works closely with community-based organisations, local government organisations, schools and the wider community.
Core responsibilities
- Identify key areas of need for community-based sustainability education, resources and services.
- Monitor and assess trends in education for sustainability and ensure trends are incorporated in programs.
- Research, trial, and evaluate a wide range of education for sustainability resources, methodologies and programs.
- Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of resources and programs for community based sustainability education.
- Establish and maintain links with community-based networks.
Skills and knowledge required
- Qualifications in teaching, public education or environmental science.
- Community education.
- Knowledge of the current trends in the theory and practice of education for sustainability.
- Familiar with community education and sustainability networks.
- Developing educational resources and programs for use by a wide range of groups and demographics.
