The learning category Basic understanding relates to all EfS practitioner’s need to have a sound knowledge of a broad range of issues relating to sustainability and EfS in practice. In order to use education as a tool for sustainability a practitioner must be aware of sustainability issues, the latest developments and ideas, as well as having a strong understanding of education and community.

Understanding of EfS

An understanding of the nature, scope and objectives of Education for Sustainability provides the theory that underpins good practice and the base upon which you can develop your own theories to guide your practice.

Understanding of sustainability issues
Know the basic concepts related to a topic, and have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant current debates and issues, government policies and local, state, national and global case studies.

Principles of community education
Effective practice in community-based Education for Sustainability requires an understanding of the principles of adult and community education.

 

 

Design, delivery and evaluation

The learning category Design, delivery and evaluation focuses on all of the capabilities required to effectively design, deliver and reflect on an EfS program. These skills are required across all areas of EfS and are integral in reaching an audience, working effectively and finding ways to critically analyse your work and identify areas for improvement.

Sourcing and collecting information
In the area of sustainability, new information is constantly being disseminated and old information discussed and revised. Therefore sourcing and collecting information and differentiating between what is important and unimportant is essential.

Project management
Understanding the processes involved in project management, specifically project management within EfS will help you to get things done efficiently.

As a leader for sustainability you will be a role model based on your passion, commitment and vision, however EfS requires leadership that allows for the growth of collective leadership.

Marketing and campaigning
Marketing and campaigning is about increasing public knowledge, gaining support and building networks. It will open up new ways for the educator and their audience to be involved in community action.
